The New York Yankees fail to sweep the Toronto Blue Jays in 8-4 loss

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 8-4 on Sunday afternoon. The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada. Ivan Nova got the start and was just ok, David Phelps did not pitch great in relief. A bunch of Yankees hitters had two hits each. 
Nova pitched five innings giving up seven hits and four runs with four walks and five strikeouts. Boone Logan took the loss not recording an out and giving up a hit and a run and Phelps pitched three innings giving up three hits and three runs with a couple of walks and three strikeouts.

Brett Gardner had two hits and an RBI, Robinson Cano had two hits and Vernon Wells had two hits. Travis Hafner drew a walk, Lyle Overbay had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Eduardo Nunez had an RBI and drew a walk. Jayson Nix had two hits, Chris Stewart had two hits and an RBI and Cano hit a double and Stewart hit a homerun. The Yankees were 1-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Gardner and Hafner each had a stolen base. Nunez committed an error and Wells had an outfield assist.

Josh Johnson started for the Blue Jays and pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs with three walks and four strikeouts. Brett Cecil earned the win pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up a hit and striking out two, Esmil Rogers pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and Darren Oliver pitched an inning giving up a hit. Kawasaki had a hit and an RBI, Melky Cabrera had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Jose Bautista had a hit and drew a walk. Edward Encarnacion had an RBI, Adam Lind drew four walks and J.P. Arencibia had two hits and two RBI. Colby Rasmus had two hits and an RBI, Brett Lawrie had two hits and two RBI and Rasmus, Arencibia and Lawrie each hit a double. Arencibia hit a homerun and the Blue Jays were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Cabrera was caught stealing.

In the first the Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead on a Encarnacion ground out. Kawasaki had a sacrifice fly in the second to extend the Blue Jays lead to 2-0. In the third Stewart hit a solo homerun to get the Yankees on the board and cut the lead to 2-1. In the fifth Overbay had an RBI walk and Nunez had an RBI walk to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead. Gardner gave the Yankees a 4-2 lead with a sacrifice fly in the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth Rasmus hit an RBI single, Lawrie hit a two run double, and Cabrera hit an RBI single to give the Blue Jays a 6-4 lead. Arencibia hit a two run homerun in the seventh to extend the lead to 8-4 and that would be the final score.

The Yankees won the first two games of the series and failed to get the sweep for the second straight series. The Yankees record fell to 10-7 on the season. The Blue Jays record improved to 8-11. The Yankees begin a three game series with the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night.
